November is the month of Transgender Awareness - a recognition and celebration of transgender communities and people. This includes Transgender Day of Remembrance- an event that honors the lives lost from anti-transgender violence. In advocacy for promoting understanding and empathy. this month brings forth education on the struggles, perspectives, and lives of transgender and nonbinary people and communities. It is also an opportunity to highlight resources and raise funding through awareness.
Design Process
The CSGD utilized this layout in print, alternating with the flat navy background.
In researching for Transgender Awareness Month's theme, the event provided the requirements to use the Trans Pride Colors and offer flexibility for the associating events that followed. This resulted in a minimal design with adaptable assets.
Deciding between metaphors of petunias, clothing stereotypes, and play on words, the clownfish, a fish species whose biological nature accepts sex change within their matriarchal society, was finalized as that year's theme mascot matched with an aesthetically "otherworldly" background.
As posters and socials were published and printed out, various requests for clownfish stickers became apparent. In response, six variations of the clownfish sticker were freely handed out with gender-related flag colors.
